Report on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Programme

Introduction
In pursuance of the directions issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order), Jammu, Government Degree College Bishnah organized a comprehensive awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan on 29th January 2025. The programme was jointly organized by the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Committee and the Anti-Drug Club of GDC Bishnah with the objective of creating awareness among students about the ill effects of drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society.
The entire event was conducted under the able aegis of the Principal, Dr. Shallu Samyal, whose guidance and support ensured the smooth and effective conduct of the programme.
Objectives of the Programme
• To sensitize students about the physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of substance abuse
• To spread awareness about government initiatives for prevention and rehabilitation
• To encourage youth participation in building a drug-free and healthy society
• To strengthen coordination among health, police, education, and social welfare departments.
Importance of the Event and NCORD
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is a flagship national initiative aimed at combating substance abuse through awareness, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Such programmes play a crucial role in empowering youth with knowledge and resilience against addiction.
The event also highlighted the significance of NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre), which acts as a platform for coordination among various central and state agencies to curb drug trafficking and abuse. NCORD ensures a unified and multi-sectoral approach, making the fight against drugs more effective and sustainable.
Resource Persons and Their Addresses
• Dr. Ayesha, Medical Officer, Sub District Hospital Bishnah, delivered an informative talk on the medical and psychological impact of drug abuse. She explained how addiction affects physical health, mental well-being, academic performance, and family life. She also emphasized early identification, timely intervention, and the availability of de-addiction and counseling services.
• PSI Naweed Muneem, Police Station Bishnah, addressed the students on the legal aspects of drug abuse and trafficking. He elaborated on the provisions of the NDPS Act and warned about the serious legal consequences associated with possession, consumption, and sale of narcotic substances. He urged students to act as responsible citizens and report suspicious activities.
• Dr. Inderjeet Kour, Teacher, School Education Department, highlighted the role of education and moral values in preventing substance abuse. She stressed that awareness from an early age, strong value systems, and parental and teacher guidance are key factors in protecting youth from falling prey to addiction.
• Ms. Ritika Dogra, representative from the Department of Social Welfare, spoke about various government schemes and rehabilitation programmes available for individuals affected by substance abuse. She encouraged students to spread awareness about these support systems and to help those in need without stigma.
Student Strength and Participation
The student strength and discipline during the programme were efficiently managed by Dr. Shiv Kumar Khajuria, who ensured orderly participation and attentive engagement throughout the event.Dr. Sapna Bhargav and Dr. Ashma Gupta played an active role in the planning, coordination, and arrangement of the programme, including logistics, seating arrangements, and smooth coordination with resource persons.
Active participation by both faculty members and students was observed throughout the event. The enthusiasm, discipline, and attentiveness of students were highly appreciated by the senior faculty members, who also interacted with students during the programme and encouraged them to act as ambassadors of a drug-free society.
Coordination and Acknowledgement
The programme was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Koushal Kiran, Convenor, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, GDC Bishnah. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Sunil Kumar, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, resource persons, faculty members, organizers, and students for their valuable contributions.
Conclusion
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan programme proved to be highly informative and impactful. It successfully sensitized students about the dangers of drug abuse and reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in combating this social menace. The college reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national initiatives aimed at ensuring the physical, mental, and social well-being of youth.
