Government Degree College, Bishnah, celebrated Constitution Day with great enthusiasm on 26th November 2025, along with the ceremonial release of the College Bulletin (Newsletter). The event was jointly organised by the Department of Political Science, the College Magazine Committee, and the NSS Wing of the college.

The Chief Guest for the programme was Dr. Rajeev Bhagat, MLA, Bishnah Constituency. The event began with a warm Welcome Address by Prof. Shrotika Rajput, HoD, Political Science, setting the tone for the day’s celebrations. This was followed by the introduction of the programme proceedings by Dr. Vimpal from the Department of Political Science.

The ceremony commenced with the Lamp Lighting Ritual, symbolizing wisdom and enlightenment, after which the dignitaries and participants paid floral tribute to Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. The Principal of the College, Dr. Shallu Samyal, addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of constitutional values, democratic principles, and the responsibility of citizens in safeguarding the nation’s democratic framework.

Following the principal’s address, Dr. Sunil Kumar Saliada from the Department of Hindi administered the Constitution Day Pledge, reaffirming the commitment of students and staff to uphold justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity as enshrined in the Constitution.

A significant part of the programme was the release of the College Bulletin, Volume 1 (January–June Session 2025). This inaugural edition highlights the academic accomplishments, student activities, and institutional milestones of the first half of the academic year. The proceedings for the release were conducted by Dr. Koushal Kiran Thacker, Department of Urdu and Convenor of the College Magazine Committee.

The cultural segment of the event included a thought-provoking skit performed by the students, effectively portraying the role of citizens—particularly the youth—in strengthening democratic values.

As part of the celebrations, an Inter-College Symposium on the theme “Role of Youth in Safeguarding Constitutional Values in Democracy” was also organised. The symposium was coordinated by Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, NSS Programme Officer, who briefed the participants on the rules and structure of the competition. Mr. Yaseen, NSS Volunteer, conducted the symposium proceedings. Students representing GDC Ramgarh, GDC R.S. Pura, and Dogra Degree College delivered impressive speeches in multiple languages, showcasing diverse perspectives on the significance of constitutional literacy among young citizens.

The symposium was adjudicated by an esteemed panel comprising Dr. B. B. Anand, Retired Principal from the Higher Education Department, and Dr. Seema Malpotra, Associate Professor of English, GCW Parade. Both judges appreciated the participants for their clarity of thought, depth of understanding, and oratory skills.

The results were announced by Dr. Sapna Bhargav, Faculty, English. Ms. Shivani from GDC Bishnah secured the First Prize with her articulate and impactful views on youth responsibility. The Second Prize was awarded to Mr. Sarabjeet Heer from GDC R.S. Pura, who impressed the audience with his confidence and clarity. The Third Prize was bagged by Ms. Avni Angotra from Dogra Degree College, whose reflective presentation added depth to the discussion. All winners were appreciated for their commendable performance.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Rajeev Bhagat, in his address, congratulated the college for organizing such a meaningful programme. He highlighted the integral role of youth in shaping the future of the nation and emphasized the need for them to actively safeguard constitutional values in their everyday lives. Dr. Bhagat urged students to stay informed about their fundamental rights and duties, participate responsibly in democratic processes, and uphold the principles of equality, justice, and fraternity. He praised the institution for fostering civic responsibility and commended the faculty for their continued efforts in strengthening constitutional awareness.
