REPORT ON WOMEN-CENTRIC AWARENESS PROGRAM UNDER NMBA CAMPAIGN (Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan).

 

In continuation of the ongoing 100 Days Campaign initiated by the District Administration, Jammu & Kashmir, a comprehensive awareness program was organized on 13th May 2026 by the NMBA (Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan) Committee of GDC Bishnah in its adopted village, Ratnal. The program was conducted at the Panchayat Ghar, Ratnal, with a special focus on empowering women against the menace of drug abuse. The entire event was successfully conducted under the able guidance and patronage of the esteemed Principal, Dr. Shallu Samyal. The program was convened by Dr. Koushal Kiran Thacker, Convenor of the NMBA Committee, along with active participation and coordination by committee members. The team that visited and conducted the program included Dr. Geeta Lakhotra (NSS Programme Officer), Dr. Shrotika Rajput, (IQAC Convenor) and Dr. Ashma Gupta (NMBA Member). Their collective efforts ensured that the awareness drive was impactful and well- received by the local community. The program was designed as a women-centric awareness drive, aiming to educate and sensitize women about the harmful effects of drug abuse, its social and health consequences, and the crucial role women can play in preventing substance abuse within families and communities. Interactive discussions were held to engage participants, address their concerns, and encourage proactive community involvement. A significant highlight of the program was the interaction with the local Panch, Ms. Rama Devi, who shared valuable insights into the ongoing efforts within the village. She proudly informed that Ratnal is a drug-free village, attributing this achievement to consistent door-to-door awareness campaigns conducted by local representatives. She emphasized that special attention is given to students and youth, who are regularly guided about the ill effects of drug abuse and motivated to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The participants, especially the women of the village, were found to be well-aware, responsive, and actively engaged during the session. The efforts of Ms. Rama Devi were highly commendable, as she has been working diligently and efficiently at the grassroots level to maintain a drug-free environment in the village. The program concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of community participation, especially women-led initiatives, in achieving the vision of a Drug-Free India under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Overall, the visit and awareness drive proved to be highly fruitful, strengthening the bond between the institution and the adopted village, while contributing meaningfully towards the larger goal of a drug-free society.


GDC Bishnah conducted Self defence training.

 

The Disaster Risk Management Club, in collaboration with the NSS Wing, conducted a special event on disaster management today, 23rd March, to enlighten students about forthcoming disasters, under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Sambyal, Principal of the college. The NDRF team, led by Deputy Commandant Uttam Singh, conducted the session. The disaster management event commenced with a floral welcome, after which Uttam Singh delivered a lecture on natural as well as man-made calamities, followed by a demonstration. The event provided practical knowledge on earthquakes, such as what to do after the occurrence of an earthquake, how to evacuate injured and dead from an accident site, and shift the wounded to hospitals and trauma centres for recovery. CPR was also taught to students. Disaster Risk Management Club members Dr. Koushal Kiran, Dr. Sapna Bhargav, Dr. Ashma, and Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, while attending the program, motivated the students to learn life-saving techniques.


Report on Safer Internet Day

 

An awareness talk on Cyber Safety and Digital etiquette was organized by 8 J&K Girls Bn NCC Jammu and Science Club of GDC Bishnah, on the occasion of Safer Internet Day. The aim of the program was to educate students about the safe, responsible, and ethical use of the internet and digital technologies. With the increasing dependence on digital platforms for education, communication, and entertainment, it has become essential to make users aware of potential cyber threats and the ways to protect themselves online.The session aimed to sensitize participants to the importance of cyber safety and to equip them with practical knowledge to navigate the digital world securely. The whole programme was conducted under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the College, who urged all students to be mindful of their digital footprint, respect others in online spaces, and protect their personal data. The awareness talk was delivered by Dr Kusum, ANO NCC and resource person of the day. The speaker shared real-life examples and practical insights to help participants better understand the consequences of unsafe online behaviour.The session covered several important aspects of cyber safety, includingCyberbullying and online harassment, Phishing, online frauds, and scam awareness, Password safety and two-factor authentication, Safe use of social media platforms and Importance of privacy settings and data protection etc. The talk was conducted in an interactive manner using presentations, real-life case studies, and question-and-answer sessions. Participants were encouraged to share their experiences and clarify doubts, making the session engaging and informative.The whole event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Sonika Khajuria and Dr. Ashma Gupta Incharges, Science Club.


Report on Road Safety Awareness Rally 31-01-2026.

 

The Road Safety Club in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the college organized a Road Safety Awareness Rally on 31st January 2026 with the objective of spreading awareness about road safety rules and responsible behaviour among transporters and the general public. The rally commenced from the college campus and culminated at Matador Stand. A large number of students actively participated in the rally, demonstrating enthusiasm and social responsibility. During the rally, students sensitized transporters and commuters about various road safety measures, traffic rules, and the importance of safe driving practices. The participants raised impactful slogans highlighting road safety, discipline, and accident prevention. An interactive session was also held where students engaged with transporters, answered queries, and emphasized the need to follow traffic regulations for the safety of all road users. The rally was conducted smoothly under the guidance and support of accompanying staff members. The event was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Sapna Bhargav, Convenor, Road Safety Club, and Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, NSS Programme Officer. The programme was organized under the able patronage of the Principal of the College, Dr. Shallu Samyal, whose encouragement and support contributed to the success of the event.


Road Safety Awareness Lecture 30.01.2026.

 

A Road Safety Awareness Activity was successfully organized by Road safety club of GDC Bishnah with the objective of educating students about traffic rules, road safety measures, and the importance of responsible behaviour on roads. The activity was conducted under the patronage of the Principal of the College, Dr. Shallu Samyal. The program included an awareness lecture on traffic signs, traffic rules, and road safety precautions. Students were informed about various traffic symbols, signals, and regulations that help in preventing road accidents. Emphasis was laid on following speed limits, using helmets and seat belts, obeying traffic signals, and practicing safe pedestrian behaviour. Students actively participated in the activity and showed keen interest throughout the session. Interactive discussions helped students understand real-life traffic situations and the consequences of violating traffic rules. The session played an important role in making students more aware and responsible road users. The activity was coordinated by Dr. Sapna Bhargav and was successfully assisted by Dr.Shiv and Dr. Sunil, whose support contributed to the smooth conduct of the program.


GDC BISHNAH ORGANIZED RUN FOR UNITY PROGRAMME.

 

The NSS Unit and Sports Committee, in collaboration with the Police Department, Bishnah, organised a Run for Unity to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31st October, under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college. Shri Ashwani Sharma Ex MLA Bishnah was the guest of the honour of the event. Various institutions participated enthusiastically in this Run for Unity event. The special unity run began with a pledge-taking ceremony, which was attended by more than a hundred volunteers and students. After the pledge, slogans were raised in honour of our motherland, India. The run was flagged off by the Principal from the main gate of the college. The runners took one round of the town and concluded their race at the college gate. After the run, refreshments were distributed among the participants. While addressing the media and students, Principal Dr. Shallu Samyal appreciated the participants and advised them to follow the teachings of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. She also lauded the college committee for successfully conducting the Run for Unity.


DONATION DRIVE UNDER SEWA PARV FOR UNDERPRIVILIGED FAMILIES AND STUDENTS

 

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), National Cadet Corps (NCC), and National Service Scheme (NSS) of Government Degree College Bishnah jointly organized a Donation Drive on the occasion of Sewa Parv to extend support to the underprivileged families and students of the adopted village Chorli. The event was organized under the supervision of the Principal of the college, Dr. Shallu Samyal. The underprivileged families were identified by the Sarpanch of village Chorli, after which the distribution programme was held at the Panchayat Ghar. The drive was formally flagged off by senior faculty members Dr. Anju Bala and Dr. Vasudha Chaudhari, along with other dignitaries. During the event, ration boxes and clothes were distributed among the needy families, while stationery items were provided to the students of Primary School, Chorli. This noble initiative was aimed at providing both essential resources and educational support to the marginalized sections of the community. The event was successfully carried out with the active participation and presence of faculty members: Dr. Shrotika Rajput (Convener, IQAC), Dr. Koushal Kiran (Convener, Red Cross Committee), Dr. Geeta Lakhotra (NSS Programme Officer), Dr. Kusum (NCC ANO), Dr. Sapna Bhargav (Faculty, English), Dr. Sunil Saliada (HoD Hindi), Dr. Ashma Gupta (Faculty, Zoology), and Dr. Shiv (Faculty, Dogri Department). The Donation Drive not only strengthened the bond between the college and its adopted village but also reflected the values of compassion, service, and community engagement among the staff and students of GDC Bishnah. The event concluded on a note of satisfaction and commitment to continue such meaningful initiatives in the future.
