GDC Bishnah conducted parents counseling on NMBA on 7th May 2026.The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Committee, in collaboration with the NSS Wing, NCC Unit and the department of Educationconducted a parents' counseling session to raise awareness about drugs under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan in Jammu and Kashmir. Around thirty parents attended the meet and sensitized themselves to drug abuse. Prof. Anshu from the Department of Education spoke comprehensively on drug addiction and suggested ways to stay away from toxic substances. Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college, also advised parents to keep an eye on their children and motivate them to deal with sensitive matters with care. The parents' counseling programme was coordinated by NSS PO Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, ANO Dr. Kusum, and Nodal Officer Dr. Koushal Kiran. The awareness session was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sunil Kumar Saliada (Head Department of Hindi).

Eco-Club of GDC, Bishnah in collaboration with the NSS Wing of the college, under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal of the college, successfully organized an “Earth Day Awareness Lecture-cum-Plantation Drive” to commemorate Earth Day 2026 on the theme “Our Power, Our Planet.” The event aimed to raise awareness among students about environmental conservation, sustainable practices, and the collective responsibility of protecting our planet. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, NSS Programme Officer. The event was graced by senior faculty members, including Prof. Shrotika Rajput, IQAC Coordinator, and Dr. Preeti Mahajan, Head, Department of Education, along with other faculty members. The programme was efficiently coordinated by the Convener, Eco-Club, Prof. Sania Hamid, along with members Prof. Nisha and Dr. Sonika Khajuria. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Kusum. The resource person, Dr. Vinod Kumar, Assistant Professor of Botany from GCW, Gandhi Nagar, delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the significance of Earth Day, current environmental challenges, and the vital role of youth in promoting eco-friendly initiatives. Notably, Dr. Vinod Kumar has been recognized among the top 2% of world scientists by Stanford University for the last two consecutive years. Following the lecture, a plantation drive was conducted within the college premises, where students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers actively participated by planting saplings and pledging to nurture and protect the environment.
NSS unit and Eco-club of Government Degree College, Bishnah, successfully organized a Plantation Drive on 6th April 2026 as part of the Mega Plantation Drive, a significant environmental initiative launched by the Higher Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir. The programme was conducted in compliance with the directions of the Director Colleges and in line with the vision of the Honorable Minister for Higher Education, Dr. Sakina Itoo, aimed at promoting ecological awareness and sustainable practices among students and the community. A total of 50 saplings were allocated to the institution for this purpose. The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from both students and staff members, who actively contributed to enhancing the green cover of the college campus. The entire activity was carried out under the able supervision and guidance of the Principal, Dr. Shallu Samyal, whose leadership ensured the smooth and effective execution of the programme. Senior faculty members of the college Prof. Anju Bala and Dr. Vasudha Chaudhari also planted saplings during the drive. The whole event was coordinated by NSS PO Dr. Geeta Lakhotra The plantation drive included a diverse variety of plants, comprising medicinal plants, ornamental species, and fruit-bearing trees. This thoughtful selection not only contributes to environmental conservation but also serves educational and practical purposes by familiarizing students with the ecological and medicinal importance of plant biodiversity. Participants were sensitized by Prof. Sania Hamid, Convener Eco-club, about the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance, combating climate change, and ensuring a healthy environment. The initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its proactive role in supporting government-led ecological programmes. The event concluded with a pledge by all participants to care for the plants and continue contributing towards a greener and healthier future.
Eco-Club of Government Degree College (GDC), Bishnah organised a Plantation-cum-Maintenance Drive
in the botanical garden of the institution to commemorate 150 years of the national song
“Vande Mataram.” The programme was held under the kind patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal,
Principal of the College.
The drive witnessed active participation from students and faculty members of the Eco-Club,
who carried out plantation and maintenance activities in the botanical garden. The initiative
aimed at strengthening the message of environmental conservation while paying tribute to the
spirit of patriotism associated with “Vande Mataram.”
The programme was conducted with the objective of instilling a sense of environmental
responsibility and national pride among students, encouraging them to contribute towards a
greener campus and a cleaner environment.
